Books about Gifted People and Obstacles
2E BEYOND LD
In 1985, C. June Maker and Joanne Rand Whitmore collaborated on Intellectual Giftedness in Disabled Persons. One can get a sense of its place in time from the first chapter's title: The Emerging Field: Education of Gifted Handicapped Students. In addition to dealing with learning disabilities, it had chapters about people with vision and hearing impairments. Further, it dealt with both severe physical impairment and adults who incurred severe disabilities.
While the field of Twice Exceptionality (gifted plus disability) has largely blossomed since then, there has been no book in the intervening decades that has examined the needs of gifted people with physical disabilities, whether from birth or from later in life. Nor has there been a book looking at the impact of mental illnesses on gifted individuals.
This series seeks to fill that gap.

WHAT WE’RE UP TO
OUR CURRENT PROJECT
December 15, 2017
Here we will provide updates on the book project, from who our chapter authors will be to the kickstarter to potential publishers. Once a month or so, we'll share what is going on behind the scenes.
LOOKING BACKWARD
December 15, 2017
As we explore the field, we will be examining prior relevant works. In this space, we will discuss some of the articles from the past that deal with this population and these issues.
TODAY AND TOMORROW
December 15, 2017
The field does not hold still.
Here we will have a variety of reviews of recent papers along with an occasional guest blog entry.
